BROCKHOLES

Parish Communion for harvest at St George’s Church was celebrated by Dean Henry Stapleton, who spoke about ‘Saying Thank You’. Margaret Kenworthy read the lesson and Roger Kenworthy was server. Verena Wood was the organist. The offering is to be sent for the work of Hand To Mouth Puppets, a group presenting Bible stories for children with puppets. Members also gave gifts of non-perishable food items to the Welcome Centre in Huddersfield.

The Harvest Festival service at the Methodist Church was led by Dr Nick Martin. The readers were Eileen Littlewood, John Gaukroger and Granville Dews. Noel Clark was the organist. Tinned food will be sent to Welcome Centre.

Mr Robert Booth led worship at the Methodist Church last Sunday when the readers were Mrs Eileen Littlewood and Mrs Jan Gaunt. The organist was Mr Keith Garside.

Parish communion at St George's Church on Sunday was celebrated by the Rev John Barnes, who spoke about ‘The Christian Life’. Rosalind Watt led intercessions and Elizabeth Mosley was server. Organist was Verena Wood.

HEPWORTH

A Nearly New Sale of baby and toddlers' clothing was held in the village hall on Saturday morning. Parents and soon-to-be parents got lots of bargains at the sale which was organised by Annabel Howarth to raise funds for the Hepworth Church.

On Saturday evening, a Cheese and Wine Evening was held in Hepworth Sports and Social Club. Organised by Hannah Ainley and Lucy Waddle, the evening was well attended. The winners of the wine tasting and quiz were ‘The Lassies’ – Jean, Val and Sheena. The next event at the club is the monthly Quiz Night on Saturday November 3 starting at 9pm.

Parish Eucharist was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church last Sunday morning. The service was led by the Rev Keith Griffin, the reader was Stella Southam, prayers were led by Richard Southam and Louise Vigor assisted with the chalice during communion. Jane Robertson was the organist. The Sunday School was led by Chris Fletcher.

HOLMBRIDGE

Holy Communion on Wednesday October 10 at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford. Lessons were read by Ian Gold. The monthly Business Group was followed by the Free Lunch and Over 60s Club.

On Thursday, October 11, members of St David’s Church attended the Big Ask discussion group at Holmfirth Parish Church. Friday evening prayers were led by Carolyn Burley.

Parish Eucharist at St David’s Church on Sunday, October 14, was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford. Lessons were read by Ian Macdonald and Margaret Tupling. Intercession were led by Ian Gold. The chalice was administered by Ian Macdonald. Jean Chadwick was the organist.

Midweek communion at St David’s Church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford when lessons were read by Ian Gold. Meetings of the Monkey Business, Free Lunch and Over 60s Club were held. Friday prayers were led by the Rev Geoff Bamford.

The annual autumn fair and cafe was held in the parish hall and raised almost £1,000 for church funds.

Early communion last Sunday at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Nick Heaton, who also led parish Eucharist where lessons were read by Judith Roberts and Ian Gold. Intercessions were led by Carolyn Burley. The chalice was administered by Dorothy Parker and the organist was Eddie Purcell.

HONLEY

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church on October 14 was led by Dean Henry Stapleton. Intercessions were led by Jenny and Clive Waind. The organist was Jean Cheeseman. During the afternoon, singing octet Cantorelli gave a concert celebrating 400 years of choral music. Proceeds were for church funds.

A meeting of the Probus Club was addressed by David Trimble on the subject of ‘Life on the Planets’. Mr Trimble was introduced by chairman Alec Wallace and thanked by Colin Rawcliffe.

Family communion at St Mary’s Church last Sunday was led by the Rev John Barnes. Andrew Dean read the lesson and intercessions were led by Carol Hirst.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rev Jenny Barnes baptised Maddison Isabelle Milner, the daughter of Lee and Katie. Shirley Turner read the lesson and the organist for the day was Vernon Briggs.

SCHOLES

At an open meeting of the Men's Monday Club of Scholes Methodist Church, Mr M Cook gave a slide and video presentation entitled 'Nepal'.

UPPERTHONG

On Tuesday October 9, prayer breakfast was held at the home of the Dawsons. Midweek communion at St John’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Banks, who was also the celebrant. Lunch followed in the meeting room.

Family communion at St John’s Church on Sunday October 14 was led by the Rev Di Ellerton, who preached the sermon and was the celebrant. The readers were David Steele and Karen Beattie. Roy Thompson gave prayers and assisted with the chalice. The organist was Hazel Thompson. Refreshments were served by Karen Beattie.

WILSHAW

On Sunday, October 21 Thomas Parker was welcomed into the St Mary’s Church family at his baptism. The Rev Judy Kenworthy led the service. Tom's grandad read the lesson and his mum and dad Richard and Steph chose the hymns. Godparents Karen and Dave French and Ben Thompson made promises on behalf of Tom and his grandma, standing in for Georgina Hayes, who was unable to come due to illness. The Rev Judy spoke about different sorts of light and of how Jesus is the light of the world and helps us to see, shows us the way to go, keeps us safe and makes us happy. The children helped the Rev Judy with the talk, Peter Pearson was sidesman and Liz Pearson accompanied the hymns.

WOOLDALE

Members of the Methodist Church attended the Sunday October 14 service at Lane Bottom.

Morning worship at the Methodist Church on Sunday was led by David and Pam Carrins, of The Gideon Society. The organist was Sue Ogden. Refreshments were served afterwards.

The women’s monthly fellowship met for a talk by Lorna MacDonald on Wellbeing.

The service on Sunday at the Methodist Free Church was led by Mr Tony Hudson, whose readings were taken from Psalm 12 and 1 John Chapter 13. In his sermon he talked of asking God for anything and being granted what we wanted. But, he said, the reality is that we may well ask for something and if God doesn’t think it’s the right thing for us then we will not be granted it. However he did emphasis the importance of prayer and of loving one another in God’s name. The organist was Peter Coldwell.
