BROCKHOLES

Holy Communion at St George’s Church was celebrated by the Rev Liam Beadle who spoke about the importance of living by the word of God. Rosalind Watt read the lesson, Roger Kenworthy was the server and Sue Ogden played the organ.

Mrs Kath Beetlestone led morning worship at the Methodist Church, when the message for worshippers was to make time to listen to God, read the Bible and pray. Mrs Eileen Littlewood played the piano. The scriptures were read by Barbara Kaye and Frank Maude. Mrs Anita Platt welcomed the congregation and Mrs Janet Grant provided refreshments.

HOLMBRIDGE

The Rev Nick Heaton chaired a meeting of the parochial church council on Tuesday and led Holy Communion at St David’s Church on Wednesday when lessons were read by Ian Gold.

The Monkey Business Toddler Group had a summer outing to Kirklees Light Railway and the free lunches and Over 60’s Club were held.

Friday evening prayers at St David’s Church were led by Ian Gold.

Sunday morning communion was led by the Rev Sean Robertshaw. Parish Eucharist, which included the baptism of Lydia Paige Eastwood, was led by the Rev Nick Heaton. Lessons were read by Sally Darlie and Judy Bamforth. Intercessions were led by Ian Gold and the chalice was administered by Ian Macdonald. The organist was Jean Chadwick.

HONLEY

Turgut Reis, the scourge of the Mediterranean, was the subject of an illustrated talk by Chris Freeman at a meeting of the Probus Club. He was introduced by chairman Alec Wallace. Mr Freeman gave an interesting talk about the Turkish corsair who helped in the formation of an extensive empire around the shores of the Mediterranean. Les Hobson proposed the vote of thanks.

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s was led by the Rev Liam Beadle. Cynthia Hepper read the lesson and intercessions were by Angeline Baker. The server was Pauline Adams and Clive Waind assisted with the chalice. The organist was Vernon Briggs.

SCHOLES

On Sunday Terry Frost led the worship, Marina and Norman Kelly welcomed the congregation to the Methodist Church and Carole Quarmby played the organ . Tracey Quarmby read from Luke chapter 10 verses 38-42 and Colossians chapter 1 verses 15-29. After the service, Barbara and Phillip Horn served coffee and biscuits.

UPPERTHONG

The Tuesday morning prayer breakfast was held at the Dawsons’ home. Holy Communion on Thursday was led by the Rev Di Ellerton. Lunch was served in the meeting room afterwards.

A BBQ was held in the church grounds following Messy Church. It was organised by Tim Cock and Bill Brown. Proceeds were for church funds.

Family communion on Sunday at St John’s Church was led by the Rev Di Ellerton. The reader was David Steele and the sermon was given by Charleen Smith, a trainee ordinand from Mirfield, who is training in the Holme Valley. Sue Dawson led prayers and assisted with the chalice. The organist was John Orton and refreshments were served by Carol Brown.

WILSHAW

An all-age worship service took place at St Mary’s Church last Sunday. Louise Brook led the prayers and read the story of Mary and Martha from St Luke's Gospel. The Rev Judy Kenworthy led the service and spoke about finding a balance between being quiet and listening to God and doing things in his service – input before output. Liz Pearson accompanied the hymns and the congregation listened to a piece of music and a poem about prayer. Next Sunday there is no morning service but there will be evensong at 4pm.

WOOLDALE

Morning worship at the Methodist Church was led by Rev Richard Thompson and organist was Hazel Booth. Refreshments were served. There will be no service next week at Wooldale - it will be a united service at Lane Bottom free church. All are welcome
