BROCKHOLES

Holy communion at St George’s Church was celebrated by the Rev Liam Beadle, who spoke about Suffering and Jesus’ Healing Ministry. Beth Dove read the lesson and Elizabeth Mosley was the server. The pianist was Roger Kenworthy.

The Rev John Hardy took the sacrament service at the Methodist Church. His sermon was based on “If God wants you to do something, He will help you.” Mrs Kath Beetlestone played the piano and the scripture readings were given by Mr and Mrs Grant. John Gaukroger welcomed the congregation and refreshments were provided by Susan Dews and Anita Platt.

HOLMBRIDGE

Midweek Holy Communion at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Chris Bullimore when lessons were read by Ian Gold.

Parish Eucharist was led by the Rev Di Ellerton. The lesson readers were Susan Barber and Kathryn Kingdom. Intercessions were led by Ian Gold and the chalice was administered by Dorothy Parker. The organist was Jean Chadwick.

HONLEY

A silence was observed at a meeting of the Probus Club in memory of member Alec Ramsden, who died recently. Chairman Alec Wallace introduced Peter Dransfield, who presented an illustrated talk on Switzerland and its Railways. Colin Hill proposed the vote of thanks.

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church was led by the Very Rev Henry Stapleton. The vicar, Liam Beadle, preached the sermon and Pat Dransfield read the lesson. Intercessions were led by Carol Hirst. Pauline Adams was the server and Mary Stapleton assisted with the chalice. The organist was Jean Cheeseman.

SCHOLES

Mr Michael Tolson led the worship on Sunday, August 18, at Scholes Methodist Church using the reading from the letter to the Hebrews chapter 11 verse 29 to chapter 12 verse 2 as the theme for his sermon. Sylvia Parker was the reader; Roger Deakin and Gabriella Dunne welcomed the congregation at the door and Carole Quarmby was the organist. After the service Jane Trumbell served coffee and biscuits.

On Sunday August 25 the congregation were welcomed at the door by Freda Hollingworth and Barbara Ainley. Christine Lockwood was the organist and Sally Swindell the reader. The Rev Tim Moore led worship, his sermon focusing on Leviticus 25 verses 23-28 and Mark 6 verses 30-44. Coffee and biscuits were served by Eric and Betty Chilvers and Michelle Booth.

UPPERTHONG

The prayer breakfast on Tuesday was held at the Hopkins’ home.

The Rev Keith Griffin led midweek communion at St John's Church and a faith lunch followed in the meeting room.

Family communion on Sunday was conducted by Val Shuttleworth when the celebrant was the Rev Di Ellerton. The readers were Hilary Roberts and John Ellerton. Les Hopkins led prayers and John Orton was the organist. Refreshments were provided by Karen Beattie and David Steele.

WILSHAW

On Sunday, August 25 a service of evening prayer took place at St Mary’s at 4pm. It was good to sing some of the lovely evening hymns and to hear again the evening psalms. The Rev Judy Kenworthy led the service. Louise Brook read the lessons. Liz Pearson played the organ and Peter Pearson was sidesman.

WOOLDALE

Morning worship at the Methodist Church was led by Kath Beetlestone. Lessons were read by Nigel Morris and Trevor Jones and the organist was Nigel Morris. Refreshments were served. afterwards. Next Sunday’s worship will be led by Rev Laura Hardy and all are welcome.

The monthly women’s fellowship was a meal the Oil Can Caf�, Hepworth, followed by the annual meeting organised by Dot Foster.
