A councillor has urged people in Almondbury to fight bank closure plans.

Almondbury’s HSBC is set to close on November 15.

Almondbury Liberal Democrat councillor Linda Wilkinson said: “I’m disappointed that the so-called World’s Local Bank has chosen to close their branch in Almondbury.

“The two cash machines are well used and the thriving business community in Almondbury finds it reassuring to bank their takings in a convenient location with easy parking.”

Clr Wilkinson said one resident had been told that if “sufficient concern” was raised with the bank, the decision could be reversed.

She added: “Although I am disappointed that the consultation process has started after the closure has been announced, I urge all those who wish to protect local services to write to HSBC and make their views heard.”

If the branch closes all accounts will be transferred to the Cloth Hall Street branch in Huddersfield.
