NEIGHBOURS are gearing up for a day celebrating their valley village.
Golcar Lily Day – which is now firmly established on the Colne Valley calendar of traditional annual events – starts on Friday, May 13 in Golcar and offers a packed weekend of music, food and family fun.
Locals, who are known as Golcar Lilies, organise the popular community weekend every year.
Events kick off with a 40s theme dance on the Friday evening at Golcar Liberal Club. And on the Saturday, the opening ceremony will be conducted by the local scouts.
Stilt walkers, jugglers, belly dancers, face painters and balloon modellers will be providing entertainment.
A beer tent and the barbecue will be located at the community centre on Manor Road this year and there will be a range of stalls on Town End.
Colne Valley Museum, on Cliffe Ash, will be open with volunteers putting on special events to link in with celebrations of its 40th anniversary.
Local churches and businesses will also be involved in the festivities.
