CSI Skelmanthorpe: CSI Skelmanthorpe could be a surprise TV hit of the future, but the children of St Aiden's First School would probably tune in after a scene of crime officer (SOCO) from West Yorkshire Police visited their school. As part of the school’s Science Week, SOCO Glyn Jones, and Wpc Sally Baines and Wpcso Sharon Mellor of the Kirkburton NPT visited the school to talk about forensic science and the role of SOCOs. During the visit, the whole school – 135 children aged five-10 – had a go at making a shoe-print and tried on the SOCO suits and masks and police high-vis jackets and hats. Glyn Jones then spoke to the children about the importance of studying - especially if they wanted a job like a SOCO.
