Volunteers want to invite more people to lunch.

The Crosland Moor Tuesday Luncheon Club provides a healthy, hearty meal and companionship to elderly people in Crosland Moor and Thornton Lodge.

The club, based at Crosland Moor Community Centre, has about 30 members.

Volunteers serve up a tasty three-course meal every Tuesday but the group is about much more than just food.

Members arrive at 11am for tea, coffee and biscuits and there are games and entertainment both before and after lunch.

Members pay £5 a week which can include free transport to and from home.

The group also takes members for an annual outing and there is also a Christmas lunch where the ladies who usually cook the meals have the chance to sit back and enjoy being cooked for.

Malvern Goodall, one of the group’s volunteers, said for many elderly people the luncheon club provided their only social contact.

He said the group wanted to reach out to the community and added: “There must be dozens of elderly people in Crosland Moor who would love to join us for a meal in good company.

“We just need to find them.”

Anyone who wants to join the group should contact Margaret Parry on 01484 608113.
