DAVID Brown is a fundamental part of Huddersfield’s economic history and of its future.

The company’s importance to the town over many years cannot be underestimated.

It has long provided jobs and grown skills, leading the way in its particular area of engineering.

So while many will rightly welcome the news that the company has shelved a multi-million pound move to Mirfield, some may wonder just what lies behind the decision not to build two engineering centres on a new site.

The company says its order book has strengthened during the first half of the year and it has now decided that rather than relocate it will invest in its future in its existing premises at the historic Park Works.

Whatever lies behind the decision to stay in the premises with which it has been associated for decades, it is surely good news that such an innovative company has decided that its future as well as its past is in Huddersfield.
