Planners have recommended that two giant wind turbines near Farnley Tyas are not built.

Councillors on Kirklees Council’s Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee will review proposals for two 60m (180ft) tall turbines on Thursday.

York-based wind energy company Emprica Investments wants to install one turbine off Thurstonland Road near Whinny Wood and another at Field Lane just north of the village.

A protest group formed by members of Farnley Tyas Community Group says the turbines could ruin views across to Castle Hill.

A report by Kirklees Council planning officers advises councillors to give the plan the thumbs down.

It says the turbines are too imposing for the area and the applicant has not demonstrated that they won’t affect bat populations or radio communications in the region.

The sub-committee meets this Thursday at Dewsbury Town Hall at 1pm.
