Pupils at Christ Church Academy have been showing off their skills on the rugby pitch.

The talented youngsters scooped bronze medals after finishing third in the West Yorkshire School Games.

The under 11 team from Deighton represented Kirklees at the Games held in Leeds after winning through the Kirklees Final in April.

They took on teams from Bradford, Leeds, Calderdale and Wakefield in a ten team event. After qualifying from the morning pool stages they advanced to a five team final round robin.

However a 5-4 reversal to eventual gold medallists Rothwell and a 6-6 draw with silver medallists Airedale pushed Christ Church into third place.

PE Coordinator Dwight Noel from the school said: “This is a massive achievement for us to even qualify, let alone be in the medals. The children have had a great time and hopefully this will inspire them to keep playing competitive sport when they move to High School after the summer.”

The event was organised by West Yorkshire Sport.
