Denby Dale Tennis Club has beaten hundreds of applicants to a charity cash boost.

The club has aced some cash in Skipton Building Society’s ‘Big 160’ give-away.

The society launched a grassroots giving programme as part of its 160th anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

Denby Dale’s bid for cash came up against nearly 1,000 other applicants from across the country.

After being shortlisted the group’s application was then in the hands of a public vote.

They served up a winning entry, scoring them £500, thanks to popular support on Twitter.

A spokesperson for Denby Dale Tennis Club, said: “Our aim is to provide affordable facilities for the young people of the area to play sport.

“Now we’ve received this funding, we’re delighted we can continue to do so.”

David Cutter, Skipton’s Group chief executive said: “Everyone at Skipton Building Society has thoroughly enjoyed running this programme which has brought out of the woodwork so many hard working local community groups, which we would never otherwise have known of.

“It is these kind of groups that make communities and neighbourhoods stronger, especially in difficult economic times and we’re delighted to have been able to showcase some of the unsung heroes across the UK who are really going the extra mile to make life better for everyone.”

Denby Dale Tennis Club has both junior and adult clubs. It offers reduced fees for those on low incomes and holds coaching sessions for all ages.
