A SURVEY by GoCompare used, as its basis, the 1993 film Indecent Proposal where Robert Redford offered Demi Moore $1 million to spend the night with him.

This despite the fact that she was married to Woody Harrelson at the time.

The question they asked was: How much would you sell your spouse for? Not just for a night but permanently.

Sound an attractive proposition, ladies?

Well, 21% of all those asked said they would be happy to cut a deal, many for a lot less than a million.

When asked what they would miss most if their partner wasn’t around, 80% of women and 67% of men said the companionship. Sex did not come high in their list of priorities. Only 12% of men said they would miss it and the ladies were even more dismissive: just 4.5% said it would be a consideration.

Blokes sometimes tend to take relationships for granted, while women wonder what happened to the romance and excitement of the early days? And is it any wonder they get fed up of sweaty socks and forgotten birthdays and coming second to Sunday afternoon football on Sky?

Even so, most married couples put up with what they’ve got and accept the realities of being married or in a partnership. But I think the survey would have had different results if it had posed the original question.

Ladies, would you accept $1 million to spend a night with a heart throb? And chaps, how would you feel about accepting the company of Demi Moore? Just think. You could get her to wash your socks.
