I WAS watching the Weather Programme on BBC. Abu Dhabi, apparently, is building the first city in the world that will be powered by the weather.

Solar panels will cover an area the size of Cardiff and cunningly designed wind tunnels will direct the desert breeze through the streets, avenues, piazzas and malls.

A town in Italy, that is in a bit of wind trap, is using this elemental force of nature to produce 30% more electricity than they actually need.

A Swiss chap is planning to circumnavigate the globe in a solar powered catamaran.

Experiments are going on around the world to take advantage of the local weather conditions and create alternative forms of power.

So all we need to do in Britain is work out how to harness mist, rain, drizzle, cloud, sleet, snow and not too much sun, and the job’s a good ‘un.

In other words, as soon as we learn how to plait fog, our energy crisis will be over.
