I WROTE in a recent column about all those plastic bags that are stuck through the letter box from charities asking for old clothes.

We never fill any of them with contributions because all our stuff goes to Kirkwood Hospice.

Instead, I said, in the spirit of waste not want not, we use the bags for rubbish.

Whoops!

Someone has pointed out to me that in small print on the bags when they are delivered is a request to leave them on the doorstep, even if not used, so they can be used elsewhere.

Sorry. I shan’t do it again.

Talking about bags: some time ago when all the hoo-ha about recycling plastic carriers was at its height, we bought a couple of reusable bags from the Kirkwood Hospice shop.

Very nice they were too, although, to be truthful, the handles were a bit long for someone of my height. The bag almost dragged on the ground as I walked along and I considered fitting it with wheels until commonsense prevailed. I made my wife Maria carry it, instead.

Anyway, at that time, I wrote about the Hospice shopping bag and I suspect, that in the hope of more publicity, Angela Dyson has sent me their latest design with the logo “I Care …” on the side.

This comes in two colours and two sizes and costs £1.50. Angela has kindly sent me the small one so there is no danger of it dragging on the ground.

Now it looks like I’m carrying a green handbag.
