I AM researching the life of Agnes Smith of Holmfirth.

She worked in woollen mills, read and travelled widely, was active in the Workers’ Education Association, stood as a Labour Party candidate against her landlord (she lost), corresponded with Virginia Woolf and went to Hillcroft College in Surbiton for a year, where she published a pamphlet on her life as a weaver.

She broadcast on BBC radio many times on a wide range of topics. Her grave is in Honley Cemetery.

I would be interested to meet people who knew Agnes Smith, to be able to listen to their recollections.

If anyone has any written materials, letters, notes, photos, records or books that refer to Agnes, or may have belonged to her, I would appreciate being able to see them.
