A HUDDERSFIELD teenager has recommended the Duke of Edinburgh Award as a good way to get into university.

Leigha Farrington, 18, will travel to St James’ Palace next month to collect her gold award.

The Meltham teenager, who has just started a degree in adult nursing at the University of Huddersfield, said: “The Duke of Edinburgh Award helped me to get into uni. It was one of the things I talked about the most at my interview.

“Doing the award for four years was a great experience and a way to meet new friends.”

Leigha will receive her gold award after completing a four-day hike in the Peak District.

She has also volunteered at the 118th Huddersfield Brownies since she was 15.
