TOP marks to Huddersfield University for the immense support it gives its growing number of disabled students.

Moving to a university in a town far away from home can be daunting for any youngster but especially for those with special needs.

There are so many potential problems to be sorted out and that’s just before the studying starts.

Yet Huddersfield is now gaining a considerable reputation for the hard work that goes on to make sure every student with a disability achieves his or her full potential.

And that does not come easily. It means careful planning and putting in extra resources to make it happen.

National figures show disabled people are around twice as likely not to hold any qualifications compared to non-disabled people and around half as likely to hold a degree-level qualification.

Expect that trend to be bucked in Huddersfield.
