HUDDERSFIELD’S history is rooted firmly in industry but bit by bit the mills have closed and been abandoned.

Some are brought to life as apartments, others as office space and a few remain as working mills.

Now a Colne Valley mill has found itself added to English Heritage’s at risk register.

It will take a lot of money and inspiration to turn around the fortunes of Westwood Mill in Linthwaite, which along with 18-20 St George’s Square in Huddersfield town centre is in need of urgent attention.

They’re part of Huddersfield’s heritage and every effort should be made to maintain them.

If that means handing them over to someone willing to restore them then all options should be considered.
