A MEN’S charitable group has given a children’s cause a funding boost.

Elland Round Table donated £300 to Ruddi’s Retreat, a charity formed to provide holidays for children and their families affected by cancer, life-limiting illness and bereavement.

The money will go towards the charity’s caravan, where families can stay.

Richard Barker, vice chairman of Elland Round Table, said: “One of our members brought in a leaflet about Ruddi’s Retreat to one of our events.

“When we read about the trauma that Ruddi and his family had endured and their ongoing efforts to provide respite care for other families in similar situations we wanted to help.

“Our annual bonfire and fireworks event this year attracted around 8,000 people to Hullen Edge Park and we use all the funds this generates to help local good causes in Elland, Brighouse and Huddersfield.

“We are delighted to give Ruddi’s Retreat a £300 boost to help fund a second caravan holiday home for families in need.”
