Too many cooks spoil the broth... as the saying goes.

But clearly these Princes Trust volunteers would disagree after they packed into the kitchen at Fartown Village Hall.

The volunteers gave up their Easter Thursday to cook up a storm for elderly residents in Ashbrow after fundraising to pay for the ingredients.

Their culinary skills were put to good use and served a menu consisting of home-made tomato and basil soup, delicious chicken curry and chocolate pudding.

Graham Hellawell of Kirklees Agewell said: “The Princes Trust approached us and said they had raised some money and wanted to spend it to provide a three course meal for our members.

“It was a fantastic success. We had over 50 people here and there was a great interaction between the age groups. We think it also helps breakdown stereotypes of age groups in the community.

“The young people did an incredible job and also made a delicious three course meal. They really were a pleasure to invite to our group and all members thoroughly enjoyed it.”

And to thank the Princes Trust volunteers Kirklees Agewell have chosen the group for to receive an award in recognition of their hardwork.

Graham added: “We are delighted to have chosen the group to receive our Agewell Kirklees Award and will present certificates to each of the young people at Birkby Croft on May 14.”

Kirklees Agewell hosts activities and social events to prevent elderly people becoming isolated in their community.
