A YOUNG boy is hoping to carry on a family fundraising tradition.

Little Finn Pearce was at the Brackenhall-based Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice to hand over money he had raised.

And he and his family plan to carry on raising cash for the hospice, in memory of Finn’s great grandmother.

Medium Una Pearce, 85, of Crowther Close, Crimble, Slaithwaite, passed away at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on October 12, 2011, following a long battle with cancer.

For many years she had supported the hospice – previously known as the Forget Me Not Trust – with many fundraising ventures.

And donations at her funeral were sent to the hospice.

Finn was there to have a look around with his grandmother Elaine Brown and other family members.

They were welcomed to thehospice by chief executive Peter Branson and also met Linda Senior and her son Russell, who came up with the original idea of a children’s hospice in Huddersfield.

Finn, eight, who goes to Scapegoat Hill School, raised the money by ding magic tricks and “mind-reading” games with family and friends over Christmas and the New Year.

His grandmother said: “We were all touched by what he wanted to do when he said he wanted to give any money he raised to Grandma Una’s charity.

“I told him it was a wonderful idea and that he could collect the money in her Forget Me Not box, that was given to her years ago by Linda Senior.

“He had a mind-reading game from a cracker and gave demonstrations of that to raise a few pounds.

“I know it’s not a lot of money, but hopefully this will not be the last.

“He was delighted when he was invited to go along to the hospice in Brackenhall, because there are two trees planted in the gardens there in memory of Una and her husband.

“Una had given Linda Senior her first big donation for the trust, as it was then, and she went on to raise many thousands of pounds for the Forget Me Not appeal”.
