IF it’s not broken don’t try to fix it. So why are Kirklees and Calderdale councils trying to complicate an already complicated system of bin collection?

Just how many receptacles for rubbish do these people want us to have? “Mirfield Resident” (Mailbag February 26) supports Clr Bolt’s enthusiastic championing of fortnightly bin collections, stating that Clr Bolt is only following Government-driven policy.

Sorry, but that is rubbish (no pun intended); councils across the country are reportedly going back to weekly collections because of public outcry.

I don’t know about you but I have had enough. We are ripped off and treated with utter contempt at every turn. Essential services are dumbed down, pay more for less. We don’t want more services; we need to keep and improve the ones we have.

More and more people look toward the council for more free services, services which have never been provided in the past. It is as though these people think it is their right to have services provided for them at no cost to themselves.

As long as we have the sheep and the apathetic in our midst, who accept with blind faith all that politicians say, then things can only get worse.

Wake up and smell the roses. We need a big shake-up in this country. What hope have we when we cannot even get a bin collection aligned to the people’s needs, not the politicians?
