Hats off to Fixby WI who have a charity appeal for Age UK all sewn up.

Their handiwork efforts to knit more than a 1,000 miniature bobble hats for Innocent Smoothie is part of Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign.

And for each be-hatted smoothie sold, innocent will give 25p to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign, helping to fund national and local winter projects. Money raised locally will help to fund winter projects and services in this area.

Hilary Thompson, Chief Officer at Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees said: “People have been supporting the Big Knit locally for over five years. Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it’s really important that local knitters get behind the Big Knit to help raise funds for vital local winter projects.”

Knitters can contact Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees to get a free hat pattern.

For those who don’t fancy making a hat themselves, wool and needles can be donated to help others reach the target, or a £3 donation can be made to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign by texting ’knit’ to 70004 .

For more information on the Big Knit, call the Choices Centre in Halifax on 01422 399830 or you can download a knitting pattern from the website www.ageuk.org.uk/calderdaleandkirklees .

Completed hats can be dropped into any Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees office or posted to the Choices Centre, 4-6 Woolshops, Halifax HX1 1RJ.
