Football sessions for children and adults with disabilities have secured funding to run for the new season.

The Huddersfield Town Ability Counts Programme is a football coaching and competition programme held at The Zone on Leeds Road.

The sessions offer an indoor, safe, nurturing and non-competitive environment where children and adults with disabilities can improve their health and well-being, develop their physical and social skills, grow in confidence, thrive and achieve together.

The programme has so far delivered over 100 sessions last season and worked with over 100 participants in the Kirklees area.

James Doyle, Disability Football Development Officer said: “We are really pleased to have been re-funded to run these sessions for another season.

“We operate four weekly sessions across Kirklees and provide both training and playing pathways for all.

“Players from these sessions can progress to represent HTAFC in both the Junior & Adult divisions of the West Riding County FA Ability Counts League.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for players to represent Huddersfield Town and we would like to encourage anyone interested in giving it a go to come along and find out exactly how football is a sport for all.

“This year we are looking to expand the programme further and welcome new people interested in giving it a go at any point.”

The sessions focus on individual skill development, team work and learning the game with coaching, all led by Huddersfield Town Community Trust coaches who have experience of supporting players with an additional need.

All sessions are pan-disability which means they are open to players across the disability spectrum with the exception of wheelchair users and blind players.

The programme will be making a big push on the recruitment of players for the junior training sessions and games over the coming months so now is the time to get involved.

Session are as follows:

Wednesday, adult – The Zone – 5pm – 6pm – Intermediate / Advanced ability

Sunday – Adult – The Zone – 4pm – 5pm – Beginner

Sunday – Junior – The Zone – 3pm – 4pm
