Orgainisers of a major Holmfirth festival have said “Thanks” to all who made it a success.

Holmfirth artWEEK has, yet again, raised an astonishing amount of money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This year, the events in the town raised a staggering £36,000.

Bob Riley, Holmfirth Macmillan Committee Treasurer and artWEEK Treasurer, revealed the main exhibition was bigger than the Royal Academy summer exhibition, accepting exhibits from more artists.

And what is even more astonishing is that the success is entirely due to the hard work and generosity of volunteers.

Viki Nixon, Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Manager, said: “Macmillan have no direct input or financial outlay in the organisation of Artweek.

“We would like to thank everyone who helps to make this amazing event such a success year after year.”

Volunteers help in so many ways, from accepting the exhibits and putting up the displays to bringing along home make cakes to sell in the cafe.

Jude Faulkner, one of the officials, said: “We would like to say a huge thank-you to everybody who gave their time, skills and energy to make the 2013 artWEEK such an amazing community event.”
