HOUSING Minister Caroline Flint has to be congratulated on her announcement that people who live in council houses should get a job.
It has to be said that she chooses her words kindly. In essence she means that the scroungers and bone idle need to sort themselves out and start contributing to society.
I must emphasis that there are sincere and genuine people who live in council houses who lead responsible lives. Unfortunately we all know that many are sadly not.
If these people were made to work their children would follow suit. I did 20 years plus in the Army and brought three children up.
When I came out I filled shelves for B&Q while starting my own business with my wife; no help from society at all. Our business is still running because of hard work.
All our children work and now lead responsible lives and have respect for society.
People moan about immigrants coming to Britain and taking jobs, what can you expect then the idle do not want the jobs. Benefits are more attractive, and life is easier.
Recently my daughter’s boyfriend lost his job. They have a mortgage between them. No help was available because they own their own home. It simply cannot be right. He literally went “door knocking” with his CV and found a job. Living in a council house there seems to be no urgency or incentive to work!
