A HUNDRED youngsters put their best foot forward for charity at Almondbury.

The students, mostly from Almondbury High School and Junior School were joined by Huddersfield Giants rugby stars for the one-mile Giants’ Youth Against Cancer Fun Run.

The event, held at the Ferndale high school was run in aid of the Laura Crane Trust. Organisers were delighted by the turnout and hoped to raise £2,000 to help young people with cancer.

The trust’s fundraiser, Helen Mervill, said: “We are really pleased with the support for this event. The children were really excited. They recognised the stars and enjoyed the warm up by the Giants’ community team. Their enthusiasm was fantastic.”

This is the second event the trust has jointly organised with the rugby team. The first, Giant Strides, involved Ken Davey and 50 supporters walking from the Galpharm Stadium to the Shay Stadium in Halifax for the team’s first home match. That event raised £10,000.
