A GIRL aged just four volunteered to have her long hair cut off to help youngsters with cancer.

Precocious Elyse Taylor, of Slaithwaite, donated her locks after seeing a promotion on TV for a wig-making charity.

The Little Princess Trust makes wigs for children who have lost their hair.

Elyse was so touched she told mum Rachel and dad Gareth she was going to grow her hair to the 12-inch minimum before having it chopped off.

Elyse also had to raise the £300 cost of turning her hair into a wig so she enlisted the help of her nan Debbie Taylor, who runs a plumbing and heating business in Oldham.

The family, who live at Holt Farm in Slaithwaite, couldn’t believe that Elyse had taken the initiative all by herself.

Debbie said: “She is such a forward little girl. She has amazed us with her confidence.

“She knows exactly what she has done. We were watching Children in Need the other week and she said: ‘That’s what I’m doing isn’t it, helping children in need?’”

Elyse, who attends Nields School in Slaithwaite, went to a family friend’s hair salon in Oldham where her fundraising venture was completed by stylist Jenny McDermott.

Debbie said Elyse was really brave when it came to having her hair cut off.

“She had no second thoughts. Once she had made her mind up that was it.”
