THERE is no greater gift than the gift of life – and in today’s paper there are almost 400 reasons to celebrate with a gathering of miracles.

These are children born as a result of the fertility treatment at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. Now 120 babies are born there every year as a result of the care people have received from the Assisted Conception Unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Before turning to this unit for help, many couples will have been trying for a baby for years without success, no doubt leading to intense pressure on themselves and their relationships.

Being a mum or a dad is something many people take for granted and yet for those who cannot conceive, the elusiveness of that dream can be devastating and all-consuming.

The technology is there and is now being used to great effect meaning people who may have been on the verge of despair have been given new hope and, ultimately, a baby to care for and cherish.

And no-one can ever put a price on that.

It shows once again that the UK continues to have an NHS that it can be very proud of indeed.

The team at the unit certainly are miracle workers who make lives complete.
