GREENACRES care home, Meltham, last month raised more than £1,700 for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust at a fundraising day in memory of Thomas Wroe.

The event included a raffle, tombola and cake sales as well as a rendition of The Last Post by trumpeter David Leadbetter and a blessing for Pte Wroe and his family by the Rev Maureen Reed.

Pte Wroe, 18, of Meltham, was shot dead by a rogue Afghan policeman in Checkpoint Tora, in Nahr-e Saraj, on September 15.

Tracey Nash, Greenacres manager, said: “We cannot thank everybody enough for the huge support they have given us in order to raise this fantastic amount.”
