Students have been rewarded for their achievements.

The Greenhead College Leavers’ Reunion and Awards Evening was held at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Around 60 subject and achievement awards were presented to over 80 students.

The awards were handed out by former Greenhead student and award-winning Radio Leeds journalist Liz Green.

The college’s Paul Wood said: “The centre of the evening was the humble and modest acceptance of the awards, the recipients representing the achievements of the entire student body.

“There was a combined sense of pride and celebration which was the focus of the Chair of Governors Eva Lambert’s welcoming address.”

College Principal Anton McGrath, emphasised how the students’ successes had been nourished by Greenhead’s culture of aspiration where all the talents are recognised.

Ms Green addressed the students directly, drawing on her own experiences.

She reminded them that this was their first step and that, with self-discipline and determination, they had endless opportunities to create their own destinies.

The occasion also included a varied programme of music from the big band and chamber choir.

There was an amusing performance of Little Red Cap from Grimms’ fairy tales and a video montage presented by the student officers.

The proceedings ended with the current student voice, the winners of the Battle of the Bands, named Lana and the Lion, giving a performance.
