VOLUNTEERING Kirklees have launched a new easy to use guide detailing the latest volunteer opportunities in Denby Dale and the surrounding areas.

Opportunities To Volunteer In HD8 has been designed to provide a simple and straightforward guide for those interested in volunteering in the following areas: Clayton West, Denby Dale, Emley, Highburton, Kirkburton, Scissett, Shepley and Skelmanthorpe.

The free guide features more than 20 local organisations, each of which have numerous roles available to budding volunteers.

Featured organisations include some of the region’s biggest charities such as Age UK Calderdale & Kirklees and Kirkwood Hospice, as well as smaller groups such as Denby Dale Cricket Club, Flockton Youth Group and Shepley Conservation Group.

“I would encourage anyone to try it, no matter how many hours you have to spare. Helping in any capacity is great and you’ll undoubtedly make lots of friends along the way” says local volunteer Laraine Davis.

The guide also answers some of the basic questions most people have when they consider volunteering, as well as providing inspiring case studies from current volunteers.

Volunteer Centre manager Sharron Wilkinson commented, “There are so many exciting and diverse opportunities in the area. We hope the booklet will inspire individuals as they can make a huge difference in their local community.”

‘Physical’ copies of the booklet will be available from the following places: Scissett Baths, health centres, community and children’s centres and libraries.

Digital copies are available from the Volunteering Kirklees website: www.volunteeringkirklees.org.uk
