IN front of a capacity audience and under guest musical director Phillip Chalk, Hepworth Band gave a concert of music requested by their audience.

The concert opened with Olympic Theme by John Williams a most appropriate choice given the great successes of the Team GB men and women at the London 2012 Olympics.

The contest march BB And CF followed with the band’s principal cornet Alan Hobbins then giving a delightful performance of Rusalka’s Song to the Moon by Dvorak.

In complete contrast some swing music followed with Valero in an arrangement by Sandy Smith, The Siciliano from Arnold’s Little Suite For Brass was a welcome choice followed by The Devil’s Gallop arranged by Bentham.

The Superb Elegy from John Ireland’s A Downland Suite led the band to the final piece before the interval – the exciting Barbarian Horde from the film Gladiator.

The second half opened With the popular Holiday For Strings then followed by all three movements of Vaughn Williams English Folk Song Suite.

The Band’s excellent flugel horn player Katherine Bentham delighted the audience with an arrangement by Adrian Drover of Marianne. Heaton’s stunning march Praise, followed by more film music, this time from Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom.

The Moving Nimrod From Elgar’s Enigma Variations brought the concert to the finale, Respigi’s march The Pines Of Rome.

As an encore the band finished with Arlen’s Get Happy. This was a concert with music to suite all tastes and it was very well received by an appreciative audience.
