A village football club is hoping to expand into a community facility.

Hepworth United is hoping to build new pitches, changing rooms, and a new clubhouse to bring the club up to Football Association standards.

The club, which submitted its plans to Kirklees Council last month, is hoping to secure FA and Sport England cash for the project.

Hepworth United, based at Far Lane, Hepworth, hopes to encourage young people to play on its proposed three-quarters-sized and junior pitches.

The club also hopes to reduce traffic in the village by building an off-street car park with 19 spaces.

Club league secretary Phil Hirst said: “The facilities we’ve got are quite outdated and we want to meet the FA standards.

“The main purpose is the development of the facilities for football in the community.

“We’ll have a full-sized pitch, a three-quarters-sized pitch for a certain age group and a small pitch for the younger age group.

“There’s a lack of that in the area and hopefully we can provide something.

“We’ll also have training from FA-approved coaches.”

A public consultation on the plan ends on July 6.
