Mrs Barbara Rochester led worship at the Methodist Church when lessons were read by Paul and Janet Grant. The pianist was Mrs Eileen Littlewood.

Parish communion at St George’s Church was celebrated by Dean Henry Stapleton, who spoke about New Beginnings. Martin Dove read the lesson and Rosalind Watt was the server. Noel Clarke played the organ.

HEPWORTH

There was a smaller congregation than usual at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday morning, the snow preventing some people getting to church. The Rev Keith Griffin celebrated parish Eucharist and the reader was PCC secretary Lorraine Pollitt. Prayers were led by Jane Selkirk, churchwarden Hilary Fletcher assisted with the chalice during communion and the organist was Jane Robertson. Refreshments were served after the service by Jane and Jim Selkirk. Being the second Wednesday in the month, mid-week communion was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church at 10am by the Rev Keith Griffin. The Hepworth Garden Trail, to be held on Sunday July 8, comittee met to plan the event. It’s not too late for any residents in Hepworth to take part in this open gardens day, a fundraiser for Hepworth Church. Anyone interested should contact Sheena Blunden on 01484 688131.

HOLMBRIDGE

Midweek Holy Communion at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Nick Heaton. Lessons were read by Ian Gold. The service was followed by the Monkey Business group, Free Lunch and Over 60s Club. Friday evening prayers were led by Carolyn Burley.

On Sunday, members of St David’s Church attended a team anniversary service at New Mill led by the Rev Sean Robertshaw. The speaker was the Rev Bob Jackson, who will lead the team conference in June at Holmbridge.

HONLEY

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church was celebrated by Dean Henry Stapleton. Huw Griffiths read the lesson and intercessions were led by Pat and Cliff Green. The organist was Jean Cheeseman.

SCHOLES

Members of Scholes Methodist Church were welcomed to the church by the door stewardsŠ Carole QuarmbyŠand Cynthia Osborne to the service of the Sacrament of the Lords Supper last Sunday. Preacher was the Rev Tim Moore. Julia Noble was the organist and the Bible readings by Phillip Horn were from Mark chapter 2 v 21-22 , Galations chapter 1 v11-17Š. Coffee and biscuits were served after the service by Christine and Peter Lockwood.

At a meeting of the Men’s Monday Club of Scholes Methodist Church, Mr Jeffrey Turner gave an illustrated talk entitled ”Impressions of the Seine”.

Preacher at the All Age Worship service at the Methodist church last Sunday was Paul Rand. Marina and Norman Kelly welcomed the congregation at the door and Christine Lockwood was the pianist. The theme of the sermon was “Around Ecclesiastes” and all related to the teacher in the message from the Bible, this being Education Sunday. The Junior Church enjoyed some reading within the service with the preacher. Amy Booth read a short passage from Matthew 7 v 24--27. Coffee and biscuits were served by Mabel Wadsworth and Margaret and Richard Thompson and a charity bun sale had been organised by Faith Swindell for the Joanne Bingley Memorial Foundation.

UPPERTHONG

The Thursday morning prayer breakfast was held at the home of Sue and Graham Dawson. Midweek communion at St John’s Church was conducted by the Rev Keith Griffin, who was also the celebrant. Lunch followed in the meeting room.

Members of St John’s Church attended the annual team service at New Mill, when the preacher was the Rev Bob Jackson.

WILSHAW

Despite the snow the church family at St Mary’s gathered for a service of Holy Communion last Sunday.The Rev Judy Kenworthy was the celebrant and spoke about how Jesus heals us, serves us and gives us comfort and hope. Kim Howe assisted with the chalice. Louise Brook read the lessons. Liz Pearson played the organ and Peter Pearson was the sidesman. Our thanks go to those who cleared and salted the paths and to Joe and John for the beautiful flowers.

A service of Holy Communion was held at St Mary's on Sunday, January 21. Linda Pearson read the lessons and the Rev Judy Kenworthy led the service. Margaret Trayte assisted at the altar and Liz Pearson was the organist.

The previous Sunday St Mary’s hosted the Parish Communion Service for the Candlemass which welcomed members of St James’ Christ Church and St Bartholomew’s to a United Service. The Rev Maureen Read was the celebrant assisted by the Rev Peter Rolls, the Rev Dennis Shields and James Bleasdale. The Rev Judy Kenworthy spoke about Jesus’s presentation in the temple and lessons were read by Clive and Lynda Pearson and Louise Brook. The children carried in pictures of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, Simeon and Anna and found large cardboard candles hidden around the church which carried the message that Jesus is “Light for Us”. Music was provided by Liz Pearson on the organ, the music group and St Mary’s Choir. Coffee was served in the Sunday School following the service.

WOOLDALE

The service at the Methodist Free Church on Sunday was led by Mr Roy Horn and the theme was “Temptation”. Roy gave illustrations of how the devil can tempt everyone, and how we have to resist this temptation at all times.

Morning worship at the church was led by Mrs Jo Rand. Organist was Nigel Morris. Refreshments were served.
