Mr Trevor Jones led worship at the Methodist Church when the pianist was Mrs Eileen Littlewood.

Parish communion at St George’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes, who spoke about The Kingdom of God. Josephine Swallow read the lesson and Elizabeth Mosley was the server. Verena Wood played the organ.

HEPWORTH

The Rev Keith Griffin celebrated Parish Eucharist on Sunday morning at Hepworth Church. Prayers were led by Jane Selkirk and the Bible reading was given by Cheryl Roberts. The organist was Jane Robertson.

On Wednesday evening, the Parochial Church Council met in the church. During the two-hour-long meeting, members worked their way through a long agenda, including details of the forthcoming annual meeting this month.

HOLMBRIDGE

The Camera Club met for a lecture by Dave Butcher entitled Mono Peak Light Prints.

Midweek communion at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamforth when Ian Gold read the lesson. It was followed by the Free Lunch and over 60s club. Friday prayers were led by Ian Gold.

Sunday parish Eucharist at St David’s Church was conducted by the Rev Nick Heaton. The service included the baptism of Jack Turner. Lessons were read by Susan Barber and Ian Gold, who also administered the chalice. The crèche and junior church were led by Judith Roberts and Joyce Smith. The organist was Chris Cook.

HOLMFIRTH

Last Sunday’s service at Holmfirth Methodist Church was led by Marina Woodhead from Honley. Lively choruses introduced the worship, then Marina used a PowerPoint presentation of her visit to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, USA, emphasising that in very difficult terrain and weather conditions God cares for the beauty of the Earth and this care he also lavishes on us. Kimm Brook read the Old Testament lesson from Isaiah. This was followed by the New Testament readings by Bob Rudd, the day’s worship team leader, who read from Matthew and Philippians. Marina encouraged the congregation to trust God’s faithfulness and in His power and timely provision. In response to her message the congregation sang The Lord Is My Shepherd, ably led by the choir and accompanied by Carol Hamer and Barbara Verity on piano and organ. After the service coffee was served in the schoolroom by the Youth Club leaders. Next Sunday, Fairtrade Sunday, begins with breakfast and 9.45am followed by morning worship at 10.45am.

On the second Sunday before Lent, Holy Communion was celebrated at Holy Trinity Holmfirth at 8 am according to the Book of Common Prayer and at 10.30 am by the Vicar Rev Keith Griffin. Sue Winter read the lesson from St Paul's letter to the Romans and also assisted at Communion. Sidesmen were Alan and Vicky Winpenny and Neil Sykes led the intercessions. Coffee was served afterwards in the Gallery Room by Richard and Elizabeth Sheard. Next Sunday the 10.30 am serviceŠ will be a special family service celebrating baptism to which all are invited, particularly those recentlyŠ baptised at Holmfirth and their families.

HONLEY

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes when Andrew Dean read the lesson and intercessions were led by Jean and Leslie Chadwick. Jean Chadwick also played the organ.

The meeting of St Mary’s Men’s Society took the form of a discussion on the ordination of women as bishops, which was led by Clive Waind.

MELTHAM

Members of Meltham WI held their annual meeting on Tuesday, which was chaired by the president Barbara Sheard. The tea ladies for the evening were Carol Pickles and Linda Hirst. The speaker was Pat Osbourne and her subject was Lady Randy. This was a fascinating talk about Lady Randolph Churchill who was Winston Churchill’s mother. She told the group about the history of Lady Churchill’s life and passed photographs around as she was a beautiful lady and led a hectic life. This was a very entertaining talk enjoyed by all the members. The vote of thanks was made by Ann Kaye.The raffle organised by Ruth Hutson was won by Josie Beevers.

SCHOLES

On Sunday February 27 the congregation of the church was welcomed by Carole Quarmby and Cynthia Osborne . Brian Williams led the service with his sermon leading on from the readings from the Bible. Edward Booth read from Isaiah chapter 49 1 Corinthians 4 and Matthew chapter 6 . Julia Noble was the organist. Geraldine Hartley and Christine Haigh served coffee and biscuits.

UPPERTHONG

Philip Broadbent chaired a meeting of St John's parochial church council on Monday. The prayer breakfast on Tuesday was held at the home of the Dawsons.

Holy Communion on Thursday was conducted by the Rev John Capstick, who was also celebrant. Lunch was provided in the meeting room afterwards.

The family Eucharist service on Sunday at St John’s Church was led by the Rev Di Ellerton, who read the gospel, preached the sermon and was celebrant. The readers were Hilary Roberts and Rachael Haslam. Prayers were given by Ray Thompson, who also administered the chalice. Hazel Thompson was the organist. Refreshments were served by Sue Legge. A short healing service with the laying on of hands took place in the lady chapel after the main service.

WILSHAW

The Rev Dennis Shields led a service of Holy Communion at St Mary’s Church on Sunday. Margaret Trayte assisted at the altar and Liz Pearson was organist. The theme of the service was Don’t Worry and the Rev Dennis treated the congregation to a lily to take home to remind them of the gospel reading. Judith Moore read the lesson and Peter Pearson took the collection.

WOOLDALE

Mr Granville Dews led worship at the Methodist Church when the organist was Nigel Morris.
