New members are needed for a voluntary group raising funds to support healthcare in the Holme Valley.
The Holme Valley Memorial Hospital League of Friends was formed 80 years ago to supplement hospital services in the wake of the First World War.
Today, the charitable organisation raises funds to provide equipment for the hospital and for use in the community.
The group has raised £18,000 in the past 12 months to provide special beds for the hospital wards, breast pumps for nursing mothers and a bladder scanner.
Now the 11-strong committee, chaired by Holme Valley Parish Council chairman Clr Judith Roberts, is appealing for new faces to join the group – both to help raise funds and to help out with the hospital cafe and trolley service.
The call comes as members prepared for a fundraising concert which was held last Saturday at Holmfirth Civic Hall when Hade Edge Band and Honley Ladies Choir entertained with a Last Night of the Proms programme.
Andrew Sykes, secretary of the Holme Valley Memorial Hospital League of Friends, said: “We have 11 members on the committee, but we can have up to 20 – and as many volunteers as possible besides.”
Anyone interested in getting involved can attend the group’s annual meeting, which takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 17 at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.
Alternatively, they can contact Andrew Sykes on 01484 681112 or Judith Roberts on 01484 684930.
