RESIDENTS in Holmfirth are going green this spring.

People from Holmbridge have teamed up with grassroots movement Incredible Edible Huddersfield.

Incredible Edible is a group which works to actively promote locally produced food through community action.

The group has teamed with the area to plant an orchard and a fruit and vegetable garden in the village.

The gardening has taken place at the back of a garage site on Holme Close and both the mini-orchard and garden will be tended by the residents of the street.

A contract will be drawn up to ensure that it is kept up with.

Nora Hamill, who is in charge of the project said: “The garden will be tended by those who live on the street.

“It is a fantastic project and we are thankful to Kirklees Council and KNH Housing for their involvement”.

Both gardens are for community use and Incredible Edible are intending on promoting the idea of self sufficiency at this time of climate change and financial difficulty.

They help people address the basic requirements of their communities – food, shelter, and clothing.”
