HONLEY High School students have been taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt during Fairtrade Fortnight.

They have been helping to attempt to break the current world record, along with other UK organisations, to make the longest length of Fairtrade cotton bunting.

The current record stands at 2,696 metres and the record is to make one stretching 4,350 metres which is just over two and a half miles.

The Fairtrade cotton flags have been decorated to help illustrate what Fairtrade means and to call for trade justice for farmers and workers across the developing world.

The buntings will be put together in London on May 8 to see if the record has been broken.

Headteacher Mr Chris Sylge added: “It is great to see our young people going the extra mile for a cause they believe in. Honley students are so impressive in their commitment to good causes, and their thoughtfulness”.
