FOR 20 years she’s been the person children turn to for help during their dinnertimes.

But now Jean Hebblethwaite has retired from her job as lunchtime supervisor at Honley Church of England Junior School.

But the community spirited mother has plans to help with village activities in her retirement.

Jean said: “I started working here when my son David, 30, who is disabled, started. I got to be around him and could work too.

“My job has involved me looking after the children when they have their dinners and be out in the playground with them. I’ve loved my job, just helping the children is what’s mattered.”

She was presented with flowers, handmade cards and a diamond ring purchased with cash from the school’s collection for her. The children also signed her T-shirt.

Jean has got plenty of things to keep her occupied in her retirement. She attends aqua-med classes (exercises in water) helps at Netherton Brownies and is doing a computer course. She helps at a group for disabled people and runs bingo sessions in the village hall.

Julia Haigh, headteacher at Honley Junior School, said: “We really do appreciate the work she has done for us over the years.”
