A long-serving member of a Huddersfield woodcarving group has hung up his chisels after 30 years.

Members of the U3A woodcarvers paid tribute to their colleague, Richard Wood, who has retired.

Mr Wood, a former milkman in Huddersfield, was a regular at the group’s sessions, latterly in Birchencliffe. But when he reached the age of 86 he said: “Enough is enough”.

He was presented with gifts by his fellow carvers. He is pictured seated, above, with the group.

Over the years Mr Wood has made numerous gifts for family and friends and also a number of pieces for his local church, English Martyrs RC Church in Dalton.

He and his wife Doreen, of Fenay Bridge, have a son and a daughter, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
