Could you foster a dog?

Dogs Trust are looking for volunteers in Huddersfield.

The charity are appealing to dog lovers to help families with children fleeing domestic abuse, by volunteering to foster a family dog at risk.

The shelter are taking in dogs that children fleeing abuse have had to part with, and want volunteers to care for them while the children are in foster care.

Dogs Trust Freedom Project Manager, Clare Kivlehan said: “A dog can really enrich a child’s life and while it can be heart-breaking for children to be separated from their four-legged friend, the parents and children we help are able to leave an abusive situation, safe in the knowledge that their beloved pet will be well cared for until they are in a position to take them back.”

Anti-fracking campaign tomorrow

Huddersfield Friends of the Earth will be hosting a pop-up cocktail bar tomorrow outside Barclays to highlight the risks of drinking water contamination from fracking.

The bank owns 97% of Third Energy – the company that recently gained planning permission for fracking in North Yorkshire.

Chayley Collis of Huddersfield Friends of the Earth said: “Water is essential to human life and we mess with it at our peril. We need to learn from the experiences of communities in the US and keep the UK frack free.

“Until Barclays cancel their fracking plans in North Yorkshire, Huddersfield FoE are supporting the Boycott Barclays campaign and calling on Barclays customers to move their money.”

M62 poem - this is brilliant!

Here’s a Friday funny for you if you’ve been stuck in the M62 traffic this morning. Kevin Fitzpatrick wrote this poem on the motorway, and we think it’s brilliant. Have a read and see what you think!

“I’ve seen the hoards of roadwork signs

When I’m stuck in a queue

I’ve seen the miles of traffic cones

The yellow diggers too

I’ve seen discarded safety hats

And high viz vests askew

But I’ve never seen a workman

Working on the 62”

“I’ve seen the portacabins

Are they in there with a brew?

Are they hiding in the ditches?

Or in a portaloo?

Has working in all weathers

Caused them to have the flu?

Coz I’ve never seen a workman

Working on the 62”

“These roadworks should have finished now

They are way overdue

We’re limited to 50 still

When we are passing through

Large pictures of their children stand

For us all to view

But I’ve never seen their daddy

Working on the 62”
