Mum of two, Kate France, is appealing for more items for her Uniform Exchange project, which provides free school uniforms for poorer families.

She launched it after watching a TV documentary on child poverty.

She said: “A lot of charity shops won’t use them and they just go for recycling as rags.

“We want to re-use them locally.

“I sort them all, wash them and then provide them free to people who need them.”

The scheme has operated out of the National Children’s Centre in New North Parade, Huddersfield, but with thousands of items to go through Kate is desperately looking for free storage.

The scheme is currently focusing on HD postcodes only.

Anyone wanting to donate is advised to go to their local children’s centre.
