TOWN starlet Max Leonard returned to the place where he was first spotted to inspire the next generation of footballers.

The 18-year-old striker was first scouted at the club’s Football in the Community Soccer School in Golcar aged just six.

Twelve years later, Max returned to hand out T-shirts and ‘Footy for £4’ match ticket vouchers, as well as the trophy for Player of the Day.

He said: “I used to love going to the soccer schools when I was younger – I’d recommend them to anyone.

“It was good to see so many kids having a good time on the Golcar course. I did a quick question and answer session with them and they all seemed really enthusiastic.”

Academy coach Rob Day added: “If we spot a player of significant talent and we think they have potential, we would generally recommend them to the academy manager and they could then be invited to attend one of our regional development centres.

“In Max’s case our scouts had already noticed him playing for his local team, but his ability was on show and the rest is history.”
