Hull University has the highest crime rate in England and Wales, with the highest rate of violent crime in the region.

York is the safest place to study, with York St John and York being first and second in the table.

The figures are based on crime figures within a three-mile radius of the main campus and cover all crimes, not just those involving students.

Huddersfield has a crime rate of 1.64 per 1,000 residents, compared with 1.37 at York St John and 2.58 in Hull.
