Villagers from Stocksmoor are looking forward to hosting a group of Italian tourists.

The visit is the 17th consecutive year of travel between the village and Olgiate Molgora in northern Italy.

Stocksmoor and Villages Twinning Association is inviting people with Italian language skills or interests to get involved with the programme of activities planned for the guests, who arrive on Sunday.

Association member, Christine Hughes, said: “We alternate between Italy and England on a yearly basis and we enjoyed a lovely week there in May 2013 including a visit to historic Bergamo (pictured).

“Many great friendships have been formed over the years with some people participating every year but also a good dose of “new blood” into the mix. Our Italian friends are extremely hospitable and great fun and we are truly spoiled when we visit Italy.

“It is our turn this year to offer the hospitality.

“We do try to be as hospitable as they are but they are a hard act to follow!

“Both we ourselves and our Italian friends feel we have benefited enormously from the exchange and the discovery of each other’s country, culture and way of life; not to mention trying out the most delicious food and wine.

“Do not feel you have to speak perfect Italian to take part because you don’t. We have a range of abilities as do the Italians with their English! We get by in the most enjoyable way which is the most important thing.”

A number of trips are planned, including to York and into Derbyshire.
