The new president of a social club lifted members’ spirits at his first meeting in charge.
John Daniel was installed as president at the annual general meeting of Huddersfield Pennine Probus Club.
John is a retired policeman and lives in Mount.
He replaced retiring president Allan Hawe, a long-serving member from Birkby.
John also gave a talk about haunted Huddersfield at the meeting held at Oakes Baptist Church.
He has done some research into the spooky goings on at local pubs and golf clubs.
John also talked about Colne Bridge pub the Royal and Ancient, which is rumoured to be one of Yorkshire’s most haunted pubs.
The pub sits opposite the former site of Atkinson’s Mill, which was devastated by fire in January 1818.
Eighteen children perished in the blaze and their spirits are said to haunt the pub.
The group’s next meeting is on Tuesday September 23 at 10am for 10.30am.
Guest speaker will be Chris Freeman who will give a talk entitled Turgut Reis, the scourge of the Mediterranean.
All visitors are welcome.
