KIRKLEES Countryside Volunteers have released details of their walks and conservation tasks programme for June:

Sunday June 6 – Still a Matter of Grave Concern. This is an nine mile ‘easy/medium’ walk. Meet Margaret at 10.45 am at Mirfield Parish Church, Dunbottle Lane/Church Lane, Mirfield (Grid Ref. SE 211 203) (Post code WF14 9JL). The walk includes a mixture of rural and some urban paths and is a longer and different version of the walk on November 1 last year.

Sunday, June 13 – A Footpath Clearance Conservation Task. Meet Kirklees Countryside Volunteers to help them clear one of Kirklees’s many overgrown footpaths. Tasks normally start at 10am. Ring Nigel on 07746973281 (evenings) nearer the date for full details.

Monday June 14 – Somewhere Round Meltham. A ‘easy’ four mile walk. Meet Alison at 7pm in the car park behind the Carlile Institute, off Huddersfield Road (B6108), Meltham (Grid Ref. SE 101 106) (Post code HD9 4AB). Hills will be taken at a gentle pace.

Sunday, June 20 – Briestfield Byways. A five mile ‘medium’ walk. Meet Nigel at 1.30pm in the car park at Thornhill Rectory Park, Four Lane Ends (B6117), Thornhill (Grid Ref. SE 255 185) (Post code WF12 0JY). This is a gentle walk through a pretty part of Kirklees.

Thursday, June 24 – Midsummer Quarter Day. This is a four mile ‘easy/medium’ walk. Meet Susan at 7pm at the top car park, Castle Hill (Grid Ref. SE 153 141). (Post code HD4 6TA). The walk will take familiar footpaths from an outstanding landmark.

Saturday June 26 – Dark Wood and Cop Hill. This is a seven mile ‘hard’ walk. Meet Malcolm at 10.15am in the Old Bank car park (between the church and canal), Slaithwaite (Grid Ref. SE 078 139) (Post code HD7 5HB). The walk takes in climbs on little-used paths to the north of Slaithwaite.

Thursday, June 29 – From Pheasants to Cuckoos. A four mile ‘easy/medium’ walk. Meet Liz at 7pm at Lepton Church car park, Green Balk Lane (off top of Rowley Lane, B6433), Lepton (Grid Ref. SE 199 150) (Post code HD8 0EW) for a scenic circular taken at a gentle pace.
