Dignitaries flocked to Kirkburton Parish Council’s annual Civic Sunday Service and parade and helped raise cash in memory of tragic Isaac Nash, who was lost at sea on holiday in Wales last August.

The annual event was this year held in Grange Moor, the home village of the Chairman, Clr Cass Whittingham.

Guests and councillors enjoyed a beautiful day with the sun shining as the Chairman, the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees and representatives from a host of local authorities marched behind the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Pipe Band.

Villagers came out to listen to the band and watch the parade, which concluded at St Bartholomew’s Church.

The service was taken by the Rev John Whitney and the Kirkheaton Singers provided a musical accompaniment.

Clr Cass Whittingham, Chairman of Kirkburton Parish Council, said: “I was delighted to see the excellent turnout and I would like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees for coming, as well as the Rev John Whitney and the Kirkheaton Singers for the service. I’m also grateful to friends and family, who helped me to host the event and supported me on the day.”

A collection will be divided between the church and the Isaac Nash Trust.

It is planned to build a skate park in Kirkburton in memory of the 12-year-old former Kirkburton Middle School pupil.

More than £30,000 has already been raised.
