Kirkburton pupils rise to Sport Relief baking challenge

Awesome cakes baked by youngsters

Pupils ‘rose to the challenge’ to bake cake in aid of Sport Relief.

Youngsters at Kirkburton Middle School were challenged to design and bake a cake – and what a response there was!

More than 90 children created 60 superb sports-themed cakes featuring everything from swimmers, ski jumpers and runners to stadiums, logos, medals and running shoes.

The winner of the competition was Maddie Briggs, whose cake was judged to have the highest degree of creativity, imagination, attention to detail – and tasted delicious!

Mrs Jackson, assistant headteacher with responsibility for cakes, said: “The response from the children was just wonderful.

“We had a bake-off last year, which was good, but the standard this year was out of this world.

“The judging was incredibly difficult, but more difficult was having to cut them up afterwards to sell pieces off in order to raise funds for Sport Relief.

“The children really did us proud.”

The bake-off raised just over £350 and the school hopes to have raise d more than £600 in total for Sport Relief.
